Our Favorite Movies About Jewelry and Gems | Oscars Edition

There's something so glamorous about old Hollywood films, isn't there? The gentlemen are always looking sharp in fantastic suits, and the dresses on the women are more elaborate than a wedding cake. And, of course, there's the jewelry! For many of us here at Noe's, it was Hollywood films that began our love affair with precious metals and sparkling gems.
Jewelry is one of those things that has always been featured on the silver screen. Even today, we see it—whether it's Black Widow's understated silver arrow necklace in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, or 007's Omega Seamaster watch in Quantum of Solace. And who could ever forget the magnificent Heart of the Ocean from Titanic? But to our mind, it's the old Hollywood films just really get it… right.
Plenty of old Hollywood movies are focused on jewelry. Perhaps the most obvious example would be Breakfast at Tiffany's, where Audrey Hepburn, decked out in pearls, fetchingly eats a croissant in front of that famous window. Of course, she also gets a ring from a Cracker Jack box engraved there! And speaking of Audrey Hepburn, she also looked lovely with her long, lovely neck encased in diamonds at the end of My Fair Lady.
When it comes to diamonds, though, there are few scenes more iconic than Marilyn Monroe's famous number in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Square cut or pear shaped, those diamonds were definitely a girl's best friend! Though of course, there's also the famous 007 movie Diamonds are Forever, with Bond girl Tiffany Case, and the comedy A Fish Called Wanda, where a diamond heist features prominently as part of the action.
Famous gems, rather than jewelry pieces, also feature in a number of Hollywood films, whether it's the gigantic emerald El Corazon from Romancing the Stone or the Pink Panther Diamond of The Pink Panther. They even show up in the classic 1980 kid's comedy The Goonies! And then there's the Arkenstone, also known as the Heart of the Mountain, from The Hobbit series—come to think of it, there's some kind of big-deal ring in those Lord of the Rings movies, too…
Of course, Hollywood tends to blow things all out of proportion for the "big screen." Prop jewelry serves its purpose, but in real life, people can't really wear such ostentatious pieces. Modest jewelry is far more wearable on a daily basis, whether it's a gorgeous tennis bracelet to go with a little black dress, or gemstone earrings that can go from office to out with just a change of makeup. For gentlemen, too, a watch doesn't have to be the fanciest in the world—a lovely, reliable piece will make him feel like James Bond whether he's wearing a suit or a sport coat and jeans.
